Legal Aid Clinic

Free legal awareness, guidance and referral for the community — every Wednesday and Saturday, 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

Free Legal Aid Centre

The Free Legal Aid Centre of Radha Krishna Law College helps people from the local community understand their legal rights and find the right way to seek justice — free of cost. It also gives our students their first real experience of working with people who need legal help, under the guidance of faculty members.

The Centre works in the spirit of Article 39A of the Constitution of India, which calls for equal justice and free legal aid, and of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

How we can help

  • Legal awareness and guidance — explaining the law and the options available in simple language.
  • Help with documents and applications — understanding notices, filling forms and applying for government schemes and certificates.
  • Referral for free legal services — guiding eligible people to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) for free legal representation.
  • Information about Lok Adalats — settling disputes quickly and without cost through Lok Adalats and mediation.

Common matters include family and maintenance issues, property and land records, consumer complaints, labour and wages, pensions and welfare schemes, domestic violence and the rights of women, children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.

Who can get free legal services

Under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, free legal services through the Legal Services Authorities are available to, among others: women and children; members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes; persons with disabilities; victims of trafficking, mass disaster, ethnic violence or natural calamity; industrial workmen; persons in custody; and persons whose annual income is below the limit notified by the State. The Centre can help you find out whether you are eligible and how to apply.

Please note: the Centre provides legal awareness, guidance and referral. It does not represent anyone in court; eligible cases are referred to the Legal Services Authorities.

Legal literacy in the community

Students and faculty of the Centre organise legal literacy camps in nearby villages and schools, and take part in awareness drives on topics such as women's rights, consumer protection, cyber safety, the right to information and government welfare schemes. These programmes are conducted in cooperation with the District Legal Services Authority where possible.

Learning for our students

Working at the Centre is part of the practical, clinical training that the Bar Council of India (BCI) requires in legal education. Students learn to interview people, listen with patience, understand facts, research the relevant law and explain it clearly — always under faculty supervision and with respect for confidentiality.
